Contemplating Divorce? Need to Create a Plan for the Future?

We know how painful divorce can be. At Di Giacomo & Somers L.L.C., our seasoned attorneys have decades of legal experience and bring sensitivity and understanding to delicate legal matters involving you, your children and your finances. Let us help you set the stage for a better tomorrow.

Skilled, Seasoned Attorneys, Developing Thoughtful Solutions Designed For You

Many people going through divorce become frustrated with the legal system, which is often more focused on contentious litigation than it is on addressing your particular concerns. At Di Giacomo & Somers L.L.C., we take a different approach to representing you and your legal rights. From our very first meeting, we listen to your needs, answer your questions and provide you with necessary information. We focus on a collaborative approach to law — looking for answers and solutions instead of starting, or engaging in, unproductive debates with opposing counsel.

Our experienced attorneys are trained mediators, litigators and collaborative divorce attorneys. We will work with you to determine the best course of action for your situation. Whether that be mediation, litigation or collaboration, we will always focus on achieving the best possible outcome for you.

Helping You Make the Right Decisions for Your Divorce

There are three ways to obtain your divorce in Illinois:

Divorce Litigation

Divorce Litigation

Divorce litigation is the traditional style of divorce where your attorney presents your case to the court to make a decision regarding property division, child custody and support and maintenance. Litigation, although sometimes necessary, is often more expensive and offers you the least amount of control over the outcome.

Collaborative Law

Collaborative Divorce

Collaborative divorce is a voluntary alternative to litigation and is cost effective. In this process, both parties retain collaborative attorneys and other team members as needed. All parties work together to resolve each aspect of your divorce in an amicable way. This process promotes a positive and respectful relationship after divorce, which is particularly important when children are involved.

Mediation is another voluntary process where a mediator helps the parties amicably work through, and resolve, all of the child related and financial issues of the divorce. Like collaborative divorce, mediation is more cost effective than litigation and helps you maintain control over the outcome.

At Di Giacomo & Somers L.L.C., our philosophy is not to litigate for the sake of litigation, but to instead help you create a blueprint for your future. We want you to move forward in life with confidence and stability. Contact our office in Northfield today to find out which divorce option is right for you.

Client Testimonials

Carol is a Savvy, Strategic, and Collaborative Attorney

I worked with Carol on trust documents for my mom when my dad passed away and I had to go through the nightmare of probate, and vowed “never again” on going through probate. She was excellent — really knew her stuff, and because I’m an education-oriented person, myself (MBA in finance), I appreciated her collaborative, educational approach. I highly recommend her for this work — she’s savvy, strategic, and educational.

Very Helpful and Very Supportive

Kathryn has been a blessing. My divorce has been super stressful and Kathryn has made me feel much better about the whole thing. Whenever I have questions or concerns, she is always there for me. She is realistic and understands the best approaches to take. My situation is not pleasant and required someone skilled, dedicated, and persistent…that was Kathryn. I appreciate her so much and I am confident you will too. I highly recommend her.

Keen Insight And Advice Helped Our Financial, And Family Stability

Ms. Di Giacomo worked tirelessly to assist our family as my husband was suddenly hospitalized. Out of state, he was in a coma, and close to death. I was overwhelmed and scrambling to get papers for the hospital and doctors. One doctor was questioning my husband’s living will. Upon hearing of our circumstance, she immediately sent me copies of his living will, healthcare and durable power of attorney …and phoned me frequently to check on us, giving further assistance as needed. After his death, she assisted me with his estate. At that time I was in shock and grieving. I thank God now, for Ms. Di Giacomo’s keen insight and advice helped our financial, and family stability. Her professionalism and compassion meant everything to my husband, to me and our family. I would highly recommend her.
